terrie01I was like “Hey, I’m almost done with one story, getting closish on another. Maybe I’ll finally get my number of WIPs to something reasonable.” And then I almost immediately (like, less than two hours later) wrote 700 words in something new.
“Do you think giving the position to Rathaway was the right decision?” Dr. Wells made a note on the pages in to front of him.
“He’s a very solid engineer. He knows his stuff.”
Now Dr. Wells looked up from his papers. “Don’t do that. False modesty is annoying and wastes time. Do you think the job should have gone to you?”
They couldn’t fire him from the job he didn’t get. “They should have hired me. Hartley’s good. I’m better.”
“I happen to agree. You were the stronger candidate. That being said, I try to avoid micromanaging my department heads in term of hiring decisions. Doing so would defeat the point of paying them to run their departments. Dr. Sarkosi is old-fashioned. He expects a certain level of decorum within the lab. And you’re wearing a t-shirt that declares your membership on Team Pluto.”
